Cowcliffe Playgroup has come of age - and a special party was held for its 21st birthday
Cowcliffe Playgroup has come of age - and a special party was held for its 21st birthday. Pictured cutting the cake, made by one of the mums, Mrs Dorothy Pearce, are Mrs Helen Hawkyard (left) and Mrs Susan Frain, members of the playgroup when it was founded. The party at Netheroyd Hill Scout Hall was attended by about 50 mothers and children, Mrs J Smith, head teacher at Fixby Primary School, and some of the teachers. Mrs Angelika Pietschker - who is returning home to West Germany after being the playgroups assistant supervisor for two years - was presented with a set of table mats. A bouquet was presented to Mrs Pat Ellin, who has been the playgroup leader for 21 years. 5th November 1987

Cowcliffe Playgroup Celebrates 21 Years of Fun and Friendship
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this heartwarming photo print, we witness a momentous occasion as Cowcliffe Playgroup reaches its coming of age milestone. The playgroup's 21st birthday was marked by an unforgettable celebration, capturing the essence of joy and camaraderie that has defined this beloved institution. As the camera lens focuses on the cake table, adorned with vibrant balloons and streamers, we see two familiar faces at the center of attention. Mrs Helen Hawkyard and Mrs Susan Frain, original members from when the playgroup was founded, stand side by side to cut a magnificent cake lovingly baked by one of the dedicated mothers, Mrs Dorothy Pearce. The festivities took place at Netheroyd Hill Scout Hall and brought together around 50 enthusiastic mothers and children. Amongst them were esteemed guests such as Mrs J Smith, head teacher at Fixby Primary School, along with some cherished teachers who have played an integral role in shaping young minds. This special occasion also served as a bittersweet farewell for Mrs Angelika Pietschker - assistant supervisor for two years - who received a thoughtful gift of table mats before returning home to West Germany. A bouquet was presented to Mrs Pat Ellin in recognition of her unwavering dedication as the playgroup leader throughout its entire existence spanning over two decades. This snapshot transports us back to Huddersfield in November 1987 when big hair ruled fashion trends. It
